Evil Drowns at the End of the Day
5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.
Genesis 6: 5 (NIV)
Hello, and welcome back to Tulips and Basil! Today, some thoughts on sin:
I want to talk about "small" sin growing into "big" sin. We start with a thought, maybe acting on impulse if we don't take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ (2 Cor 10:5). We've acted on our particular sinful thought one time. Then we have the thought again, the act again, the refusal to move in self-control as the Holy Spirit empowers us, and the sin starts to dig its heels into our hearts.
We entertain the sin again and again, until eventually, like the world before Noah and the flood (referenced above in the scripture from Genesis 6) the thoughts of our human heart are "only evil all the time."
As that one sin separates us from God (But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. - Isa 59: 2) it becomes easier for us to allow other sins into our lives. The longer this goes on, the closer we get to no goodness and complete evilness.
Like Noah's generation, God sees our evil hearts. Like Noah's generation, we're warned to turn from our sins. Like Noah's generation, if we continue to ignore the warning, we'll be caught in the (metaphorical) flood.
And the flood came with no floaties. No life preservers. Evil drowns at the end of the day, friend, and it's time to start caring about our sins and changing our ways.
All the love,
Emily
