The Woman with a Disabling Spirit

The woman with a disabling spirit: Luke 13:8-10
Busy? Pin this and come back later!

Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your disability. And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight and she glorified God.

Luke 13: 10-13 (ESV)

Hello friends!

A bit of a devotional is in order for today's post. Pulling from Luke 13: 10-13, we see a woman with a disabling spirit. Her body and spirit have been affected for eighteen years. Can you imagine enduring a pain for so long? Maybe you can, maybe this is your reality.

The woman goes about life, though. What else is there to do? And part of her life is worshipping the Lord as the Lord has commanded. She shows up to church on the Sabbath and meets with her community in corporate worship.

She doesn't say, "Can't stand up. Sorry, can't go." She picks herself up, dusts herself off, and goes to deepen her relationship with her God and her community. She participates in obedience to the Lord.

And it just so happens that on this particular day of obedience, Jesus is in attendance. Scripture tells us that He sees this woman, sees her disability, calls her over, and heals her of her pains.

This woman didn't come to church because she heard Jesus would be there and wanted His healing powers pointed her way. She came to church because it was part of practicing her faith.

She was doing as the Lord had commanded, seeking His presence, and she received healing as a gift after beginning her act of obedience.

We should absolutely ask, seek, and knock (Matthew 7: 7-8), but we should also move throughout our days in obedience to what the Lord has asked of us through His word, the Holy Bible, and praise Him when He sees the need we hadn't mentioned, enables us to stand up straight, and gives us the spiritual encouragement we need to continue being His light here on earth.
